LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, welcomes the federal government’s attention on the mental health and suicide risks of LGBTI people.

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia welcomes the Productivity Commission’s acknowledgment in their final report on mental health that LGBTI communities have poorer mental health outcomes than the general population, as a result of stigma, discrimination, social exclusion, ostracising and harassment. We also welcome the acknowledgment that LGBTI people are rightly identified within the feedback from Ms. Christine Morgan in her role as National Suicide Prevention Adviser to the Prime Minister.

“LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, along with its members, have been advocating tirelessly for many years to ensure whole of government responses to our mental health and wellbeing. These two important reports give us hope that finally we will see investment in our communities, so that we can deliver the services and programs we so desperately need”, CEO of the Alliance, Nicky Bath, said.
