Working with LGBTI People: People & Families

LGBTI families face stigma in society and sometimes from healthcare providers. 

This can include a lack of recognition of LGBTI families, or debate about the validity and rights of LGBTI families in the media, in politics and the law. This has an impact on individuals and families, and can lower people’s confidence in accessing mainstream services for fear of discrimination. 

There are a number of things health providers and organisations can do to support LGBTI families.

The National LGBTI Health Alliance is the national peak health organisation in Australia for organisations and individuals that provide health-related programs, services and research focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people and other sexuality and gender diverse (LGBTI) people and communities.
