LGBTI people are most likely to realise and explore their identities and experiences during their childhood and adolescence. Along with increasing social acceptance of LGBTI people, LGBTI young people are choosing to be visible at a younger ages than previously possible.
However, they are still vulnerable to stigma and harassment, especially in education settings, that impacts significantly on their health and wellbeing outcomes. These young people are reaching out for support in their local communities, and more increasingly online, to find a sense of connectedness with other young people who are walking on the same path and sharing similar life experiences.
